Smyrna, Georgia is a city located northwest of Atlanta. It is part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area and has a population of 51,271 as of the 2010 census. Smyrna was also the site of the production of B-29 bombers during World War II. The same manufacturing plant was reopened in 1951 by Lockheed which spurred growth for the city during the post-war era.
Just over 51% of the total population of Smyrna is Caucasian with 32% African American. Roughly 7% of the population is Asian. Over 91% of Smyrna residents have a high school diploma, and 52% have a college degree.
The city has several points of cultural interest including the “Market Village” located in the city center. The Market Village hosts open-air concerts and other festivals. Small parks dot the city including Cobb Park, Aline Wolfe Center, and Tolleson park pool.
